Gem Lake

Hi there. Sorry, I'm just really too tired to write anything spectacularly hilarious this evening. I'm working on a couple days of mountain insomnia. But the good thing is that I got to watch the sun rise over the mountains this morning. It was truly amazing. This morning we went to hike the Lumpy Ridge trail up to Gem Lake. Gem Lake is just a teeny little thing, about 50 feet across and 5 feet deep, but the trail to it is just terrific, covered with climbing rocks, and the lake itself is an amphitheater with a 50-foot rock wall around it. It was hard going for some of our younger hikers, and even harder for those of us hiking with them, but was well worth it. We gained 1000 feet of elevation in 1.7 miles... that's like walking up and down a 100-story skyscraper.
